What is STEAM Camp?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. STEAM Camp is a week of scientific investigations, games, crafty projects, and fun! Past sessions have included: Garden Art, Water Machines, Barbie Drag Races, Bioengineering Fun, SteamPunk Pinwheels, Electronic Bugs, Helping Hands, Delicious Science, Electronic Music, Sci-Fi Movie Making, Sweet Science, DIY Photography, and Wiggle Bots!

We have modified two of these sessions to work virtually via Zoom! For both sessions, SGS will be delivering you materials to engage with.

AM SESSION – 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM –  Mon-Fri – Virtual Storytelling w/ Ms. Lulu Carpenter10 spots remaining! Let’s explore the art of fun storytelling! We will be acting out clown, alien, animal, and other characters with makeup oh my! We will use improv and basic theatre games to explore the awkward and fun shapes of inanimate objects and other quirky characters. Learn the basics of online performance by enhancing virtual Zoom space to create other worlds and using everyday objects at home as props, costumes, and settings, oh my! Lights, Camera, Action, Respect!

PM SESSION – 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM –  Mon-Fri – STEAMing in the Kitchen with Rosetta LeeSESSION FULL! Who knew there was so much science and art in the kitchen? Liquid rainbows, homemade lava lamps, floating see-through eggs, and more! Learn some science, do cool experiments, make beautiful food art, and get lots of ideas for having fun in the kitchen (with adult permission, of course)!

Who can attend?

Girl-identified students and gender non-conforming students entering 3rd, 4th, or 5th grades. You’ll be with SGS teachers and Ambassador Counselors (current SGS students and alums).

When?

Monday-Friday, Aug 10th – Aug 14th, 2020; students choose 1 or both sessions.

  • AM Session – 9:30 am – 11:00 am – Virtual Storytelling
  • PM Session – 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm – STEAMing in the Kitchen

How much?

The cost for STEAM camp is $150 per virtual camp session or $300 for both. Financial aid is available, with a non-refundable $25 application fee.
