  • Custodian and Facilities Manager

    About the Position
    After 20 years in rented facilities, SGS completed construction on the main building of our permanent home in spring 2022. We relocated for the start of the 2022-2023 school year and immediately began work to build a gym. With that facility’s opening in January 2025, our campus is now complete.

    Seattle Girls’ School is seeking a dedicated Custodian & Facilities Manager. This position is ideal for an individual with custodial experience who is eager to develop into a facilities management role. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the school facilities, while  training to assume greater responsibilities in all aspects of facilities management. This person reports to the Director of Operations.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Plan and manage ongoing maintenance in and around the school, including performing basic maintenance and repairs
    • Monitor and ensure the ongoing security and safety of the premises
    • Monitor all systems (electrical, heating, HVAC, etc) and take necessary action if problems arise
    • Assist with heavy lifting and moving, including event set-up support
    • Direct, coordinate and negotiate contracts with independent contractors and vendors
    • Responsible for fire and general alarm system maintenance
    • Member of the school’s risk management team, including supporting building-related functions during emergencies and drills.
    • Organize the ordering of supplies for facilities cleaning and maintenance
    • Participate in school community through lunch duty and weekly student assemblies
    • May include other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:
    • Understanding of general construction and maintenance
    • Good interpersonal skills and a customer service approach
    • Ability to safely and proficiently use power and hand tools
    • Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, work on a ladder of 5+ feet in height, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
    • Ability to occasionally work after hours, as necessary

    Compensation:  
    This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position. We are committed to staff learning, growth and development. Our investment includes:
    • Competitive salaries. The compensation  for this position is $28.84/hour-$31.25/hour. SGS is committed to transparent, equitable compensation practices. Hourly rates are benchmarked using current market data and bands are created to demonstrate the growth potential within the band. Typically, offers are made at the starting place of the band.
    • Generous time off including 20 vacation days and 10 paid non-vacation days for medical or family leave.
    • Nine (9) company-wide holidays and a six-day December closure.

  • Part-Time Middle School Learning Specialist

    We seek a part-time learning specialist starting August 2025. At Seattle Girls’ School*, we use an experiential, joy-filled, inquiry-based approach. We seek teachers who are collaborative, flexible, and love learning and doing alongside middle school girls and gender expansive students. Teachers work collaboratively to write original curriculum (no textbooks here!) that is project-based and hands-on, and integrates anti-bias work into everything they do. This part-time learning specialist position (30 hours/week, 0.75 FTE) is an opportunity to support students and teachers in making the most of a transformative SGS experience.
    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Build upon the existing academic culture of SGS to support teachers in providing innovative, motivating, and relevant learning experiences for middle school girls and gender expansive students.  
    • Engage students in differentiated and meaningful learning through culturally responsive teaching practices.
    • Write and manage individualized learning plans that target specific curricular/learning needs and outline necessary classroom and testing accommodations.
    • Interpret educational evaluations and conduct student observations to identify helpful strategies and accommodations.
    • Act as case manager to all students who have a learning plan, providing one-on-one or small group support related to study skills, executive functioning, and personal empowerment. 
    • Lead goal setting meetings once a year with learning plan families. 
    • Oversee academic accommodations for students with learning plans in the classroom and on standardized tests.
    • Provide ongoing consultation and referral for new testing and retesting, tutors, and other supports. 
    • Assume an active role in grade-level student support meetings and meet regularly with the Dean of Students and Assistant Head of School.
    • Collaborate with outside service providers, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, tutors, therapists, and psychologists to support students.
    • Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom accommodations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with divergent learning needs.
    • Work with classroom teachers and other specialists to identify and support gifted students, providing appropriate academic challenges and enrichment opportunities.
    • Teach a once-weekly class in the fall term to support all 7th grade students with study skills, executive functioning, and personal empowerment. 
    • Support the admissions process by attending Open Houses, meeting with prospective families, and reviewing applications for students with learning support needs.
    • Beyond your curricular responsibilities, actively engage around the larger mission of SGS to develop students’ leadership and their understanding of social justice.
    • Model a growth mindset by learning alongside students and colleagues.
    • Engage in continuous personal identity development work, specifically in regards to race and privilege, and support students in their own learning.
    • Provide a safe and active environment that will benefit each SGS student.
    • Other duties as needed.


    Qualifications:
    • B.A./B.S. is required
    • Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field preferred 
    • Classroom teaching experience in upper elementary and/or middle school grades preferred
    • Experience with middle school-aged students
    • Experience with student support for learning differences, especially related to reading, math, and attention/executive functioning
    • Experience reading and analyzing educational testing evaluations
    • A high level of cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of middle school-aged girls and gender expansive students
    Compensation:
    Salary and benefit package commensurate with experience. The annual salary range for our full-time faculty is $66,800-$88,500. SGS uses a salary scale that takes years of experience and degrees attained into account. All faculty are compensated according to the scale and dependent on those two data points.

People of color who are interested in working at independent schools are invited to attend the 2025 Diversity Career Fair hosted by POCIS Northwest on Sunday, February 9, 2025 for the virtual fair and Saturday, March 8, 2025, for the in-person fair. This career fair is offered through the collaborative effort of 20+ regional schools. 

Attendees of the career fairs will hear from diversity practitioners about working in independent schools and learn about current career opportunities in teaching and staff positions.
