Estella E. Leopold | 2012

Estella Leopold is a University of Washington professor emeritus of botany, forest resources, and quaternary research. She has been teaching and conducting research for more than 60 years. Leopold pioneered the use of fossilized pollen and spores to understand how plants and ecosystems respond over eons to things like climate change. Overtime, Leopold's research has contributed to many conservation actions including her work at the Florissant Fossil Beds in Colorado. In 1974, she was elected as a member of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences.
