Meet Our New Mascot!

Community letter from our Head of School, Brenda Leaks, announcing the new mascot.
Dear SGS Community,

Last spring, we announced that we were embarking on a community journey to select a new mascot - one that would fully embody the spirit of our mission, culture, and community. And as a community, we did it! After 600 total submissions for our new mascot, we have chosen a mascot that is collaborative, curious, joyful, bold, and unique!

We have named our new mascot Tenacity! The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines tenacity as persistent in maintaining, adhering to, or seeking something valued or desired. We believe this is a fitting name for a powerful symbol of SGS student leaders - past, present and future. They don’t give up in their pursuit of connection, learning, and justice. They persist when faced with challenges.  They are resolute in their desire to use their voices for the good of their communities. They are tenacious! We are grateful for the legacy of the lynx. And, we are excited that the growls and “high paws” over  the last twenty years will now evolve into a buzz, a hive, and a swarm of SGS spirit!

It is so fitting that this new mascot launches as we race toward the completion of our brand new gym; a space for leadership, athletics, and community. Just as the community came together to help us select our new mascot, you all are coming together to help us finish the gym. It will be a game-changer for SGS! If you haven’t heard, we have just $177,000 left to raise in the next six weeks. We need you to help us cross the finish line! We are asking every member of our community to lean in and help make this dream come true. Learn more about the campaign and the project here.

Thank you for all of your support, care, and partnership! Let’s go, Bees!
