Postcards from Alums: Meet Nisa!

In this edition of "Postcards from Alums," we're reconnecting with Nisa O., class of 2004. In addition to being an alum, Nisa currently serves on the Board of Trustees. In this interview, we explore the role SGS has played in her life and discover what it means for her to return and serve.
How do you think your time at SGS influenced your ability to overcome challenges after high school and in your career?

Well, there are two aspects to consider. Firstly, I formed enduring friendships and a sisterhood with my classmates, bonds that have lasted almost 25 years and continue to thrive. Contrasting this, my siblings attended schools that didn't prioritize personal growth, and I've witnessed the effects of that. SGS significantly bolstered my confidence and provided me with friendships that I know will endure a lifetime.

What does it mean for you, as an alum, to come back and be on the Board of Trustees at SGS?

Returning to SGS as a member of the Board of Trustees was a natural choice for me. So much of my experience was powerful and long-lasting, so it made sense to reconnect with a school that played a huge part in shaping my life. It’s not so much about giving back; it’s about reconnection.

If you could impart any advice to families or students who are considering SGS, what would your advice be?

Honestly, I remember not wanting to go to a girls school. But just entering this path with an open mind and I’m really grateful for landing there. It’s a great opportunity and safe environment and to just lean into the experience.
